Supplements for Colds.

The KING5 health link leads with a story that zinc can help with shortening the duration of a cold.  This is news?  I like how as time passes very old, tried and true non-pharmaceutical treatments for different illnesses pass muster with science and suddenly become "okay."  I also like how until they do many people equate using these remedies as quackery.  Sigh, oh well...  The dose I would throw out for the zinc by the way would be not more than 100 mg a day while you're sick, and they are right -- it is prone to causing nausea on empty tummies, so eat something.

Other cold and flu fighting supplements include Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Elderberry, Chinese Mushrooms, Astragalus, Echinacea, Goldenseal, and Colostrum.  While studies have been done on echinacea with mixed results, all the others will have to await "validation" by real scientists and until then walk on the wild side and maybe kill a virus.

Thanks, Mark. Brent and I were just reading about zinc for colds. Thanks for the other ideas too. At home, I've been putting eucalyptus oil in water for the steam. I'm learning on my own since doctors ususally only prescribe pills. I appreciate your expertise!
